Of course you can fold the back seat in Escape 2008, here are the instructions:
1. Lift and remove the headrest from the back seat.
2. Place the headrest under the front seat for storage.
3. Pull the seat release lever.
(Note: Make sure there is nothing in the r when folding the chair.)
4. Lean the chair forward. Attach the seat belt clip to the back panel clip. This will ensure that seat belts do not get caught without blocking the backrest fold.
5. To open the backrest, pull the backrest release lever (above the seat) towards the next seat. This is common with 60% and 40% backrests.
Note: When the backrest release lever is pulled, lower the backrest slowly until it is level.
6. Rotate the chair back to the charging position.
