Do you need a blower motor resistor?
As we mentioned earlier, a blower motor resistor isn’t necessary in two instances. When the fan is off completely, or when the fan is running at high power. At high power the current bypasses the resistor because it doesn’t need to be modulated it anyway.
Is a blower motor and a blower motor resistor the same thing?
The blower motor switch is the actual switch or button on the dash that you use to increase or decrease the fan speed. The blower motor IS the fan. The blower motor resistor is what allows the fan to work at different speeds as opposed to just off and on.
When does an air blower fan not work?
Discussion in ‘ Discovery ‘ started by eieiooo, Jul 30, 2009 . Air Blower Fan not working with switch in any position 0 – 4. No heat, no A/C. When ignition key is turned, condenser fans start immediately. When engine is started, condenser fan continues to run even though no A/C buttons are pressed and blower switch at zero.
How does a blower motor resistor control the fan speed?
The blower motor resistor controls the fan speed of the blower motor and the resulting change in air pressure produced by the movement of the blower fan. It accomplishes this by regulating the electric current that powers the motor.
What happens when there is no heat and no blower?
When engine is started, condenser fan continues to run even though no A/C buttons are pressed and blower switch at zero. All relevant fuses check out OK. There is no 12V power at the blower motor connector plug with engine running, A/C button pressed, and fan speed on any setting 1 – 4. I don’t know where any appropriate relay might be located.
How can I tell if my blower motor resistor is faulty?
Another symptom of a faulty blower motor resistor is no air from the vehicle’s vents at all. Power to the blower motor is fed through the blower motor resistor, so if it fails or has any issues power can be cut off to the motor.
