Ad Impression - How To Discuss

Ad Impression

Any occasion where a consumer receives an advertisement.

What is an ad impression?

Displaying ads is a successful display of ads, loading ads on a web page is displaying ads. This is the most common meaning when using the word "impression" (including when calculating CPM), but it's important to distinguish it from page-impression, which refers to the time the web page loads.

While it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it, everyone does their best to keep this concept clear from the start. For example, if a web page has three ads and the entire page loads, that counts as one page impression, but three ad impressions.

So if you have a website with 3 ads per page and a website with 10,000 page views per month, you can have up to 30,000 ad impressions per month.

Keep in mind that you can have up to 30,000 as not all ads are loaded every time a web page is loaded. This can be for many reasons, including:

  • Users close or leave the page too quickly for all ads to load.
  • ad blocker
  • Calls with announcements are aborted (ads are not showing for some reason)

This may sound strange, but in fact up to 30% of potential ad impressions are lost this way.

Also, your fill rate probably won't be 100%, so you can't bid on a sale for every impression of your ad.

Displaying ads, also known as viewing ads, is when an ad on a website appears on a user's screen. Impression counting is essential in online advertising, so ad accounting is critical. A website can accommodate multiple ad impressions, and each time an ad is shown to a user, an impression is counted, regardless of whether they click the ad or not.

Ad serving occurs when a consumer encounters an ad (such as an attachment in a text or multimedia message, on a mobile website (WAP), in a video clip, or in related media).
